gingrich doesn't go quite that far, but he says that romney needs to reform his thinking. >> i think they're only now beginning to come to grips with the general election. they had a very -- >> scary -- >> they had a very successful primary strategy. in a primary you can raise enough money to build a motor boat and drive to where you want to get to in the primary. in the general election you're like a sail boat. the system is so much bigger than you. >> it is hard to go from a motor boat to a sail boat, known who is familiar with yachting knows that. ben smith, i want to go right to you and talk about sort of the problem facing this campaign. first, when is the last time that governor mitt romney gave a speech or did an event or otherwise made some sort of policy news that had an impact on voters and on this race? >> i mean i don't know. it's been a while. that is one of the things about these campaigns. not that romney has lost it all in one moment through a fatal gaffe although there have been bad moments but every day he's losing it day by day each day in a new and creative method and

, a lot to deliver on the ticket, out there, active, and former speaker newt gingrich did the same thing two weeks ago, gave interviews. they are at the convention. i have not seen congressman paul yet do any events. [laughter] but rand paul has been supportive. governor perry has done a lot for him, helped him raise money, welcomed him to texas. i have not seen herman cain do anything yet. generally speaking, i have seen the two other finalists newt gingrich and rick santorum visible, and i have heard the other ones have been or will with the exception of congressman paul, but rand paul is doing the right thing. i'm optimistic there's not division in the party. >> hello, thank you for what you do in our lives and in so many ways. i wanted you to elaborate on what was mentioned on your show today. i'm i literate about this issue having to do with the -- this jimmy carter appointed judge making a decision. please, start with square one and take us through. >> sure. >> thank you. >> after the obamacare case was decided by the supreme court and the law was upheld, cases challenging other pa

mccaskill? my view, jennifer, if i might all of the enablers like newt gingrich, they're asking women of the g.o.p. to put forth this testimonial for todd akin. my view is that everyone in the republican party should tell us where they stand on todd akin's candidacy. because this is a party that's got an free ride. todd akin may have said what he said in august but the republican platform is basically todd akin's which is that there are no exemptions in the case of rape or incest for women who need abortions. so i think we need to take a measure of the extremism of a todd akin and tether it to a republican party that you know, is now going to come forward and support this guy? >> jennifer: that's a really great point. we could call about -- the nation could, "the war room" could, call upon the mainstream media. they don't necessarily come on "the war room" all the time but they go before mainstream media. ask them. today, you've got akin's race getting a lot of money from the outside republicans again including ji
